While remission is the goal in treatment of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), residual or lingering symptoms are common, even among remitters, and can negatively affect patient functioning and outcomes. This factsheet will review the prevalence of MDD, discuss the prevalence and impact of residual symptoms, and review strategies for addressing residual symptoms in patients with MDD.
