Davidson County Tennessee Opens Center As Jail Alternative For Mentally Ill Offenders
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) in Tennessee opened a new Behavioral Care Center (BCC) to serve as an alternative to jail for arrestees with mental illness. The 60-bed center can house both men and women.
With the BCC, the sheriff’s office seeks to divert arrestees with qualifying charges to treatment; those charged with victim-based crimes cannot be admitted. Charges will be expunged if the resident completes his or her assigned treatment plan. Clinical services at the BCC, provided by the …
