Depression Accounted For 44% Of 2018 Pennsylvania Mental Disorder Hospital Stays

In 2018, depression accounted for 44% of hospital stays for mental health issues in Pennsylvania. This was followed by schizophrenia (20.7%), bipolar issues (20.2%), suicidal issues (4.2%), trauma (3.6%), and anxiety and other miscellaneous mental disorders (7.3%). Statewide in 2018, there were 113,704 hospital stays for mental health issues, totaling 1,162,371 days. The average stay for mental health issues was 10.2 days: 8.6 days in acute care hospitals, and 12.3 days in psychiatric hospitals.
