DOJ Sues Mississippi For Discriminating Against Adults With Mental Illness
On August 11, 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a complaint against the State of Mississippi alleging that the state fails to provide adequate community-based mental health services for adults. The DOJ alleges that this failure violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act (CRIPA). The State of Mississippi’s public mental health system serves persons with mental illness, intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD), and substance use disorders.
