For Low-Income Households, Total Expenditure For Antidepressants Dropped 33% Between 2013 & 2018
The total expenditure for antidepressants prescribed to people in households below 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL) was one-third lower in 2018 compared to 2013, but rose by 10% during the same period for higher-income households. For low-income households, the average total expenditure per fill declined from $73 to $49. For higher income households, the average total expenditure rose from $77 to $85. The data was collected in the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey-Household Component (MEPS-HC).
