In 2017, health disease was the leading cause of death in the U.S., accounting for 23% of the total 2,179,857 deaths in the country. Since 2016, the 10 leading causes of death, and their rankings, remained unchanged, and accounted for 74% of all deaths in the U.S. during both years.
