In 2022, 20.8% of adults were experiencing “any mental illness” (AMI), equivalent to more than 50 million Americans. Of these adults with mental illness, 4.9% experienced severe mental illness. AMI includes any diagnosable mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder, other than a developmental or addiction disorder.
