New Florida Law Exempts Antipsychotics From Medicaid Step Therapy

On April 6, 2022, Florida enacted a bill to exempt Medicaid beneficiaries diagnosed with schizophrenia from step-therapy authorizations for antipsychotic medications. Under the new law, the beneficiary can be exempted if the physician documents medical necessity for a specific antipsychotic medication. The law is due to Florida Senate Bill (SB) 534. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2022.
