Oklahoma Law Limits Use Of Antipsychotic Drugs In Assisted Living Communities
On April 19, 2021, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt signed legislation to limit the use of antipsychotic drugs for residents of assisted living communities. The legislation is designed to slow the overprescribing of antipsychotic drugs to residents of assisted living communities and other long-term care facilities. An antipsychotic is defined as a drug, sometimes called a major tranquilizer, used to treat symptoms of severe psychiatric disorders (including, but not limited to, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder).
