Over One-Third Of Americans Live In Areas Lacking Mental Health Professionals

About one-third of Americans, 121 million as of June 30, 2021, lived in an area with a shortage of mental health professionals. To eliminate the shortage, an additional 6,406 mental health professionals are needed. Two-thirds of shortage areas are in rural or partially rural parts of the country.
