Health Care Disparities

Health care disparities are an unfortunate reality for providers and the communities they serve. Racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic factors all come into play as root causes of this disparity and is remarkably consistent across the health care spectrum. The outcomes can be an underutilization of services, misunderstandings, and poor outcomes1. These issues can be addressed, but often need the disparities to be recognized before they can become a focus. Providers need an increased awareness of these unique issues facing some of their patients and the tools to combat it. Need a crash course on strategies for combatting health care disparities and what types of payers and providers are utilizing them? Visit us in the PsychU Spotlight this month.
