A Treatment Journey For Patients With Mental Health Illness: A Focus On The Jail System Part 2

A review on the current statistics of mental health illness in patients in the jail system and a discussion on the negative consequences if treatment is not available. Long-acting injectables (LAI) will be discussed as an option for these patients, both the disadvantages and advantages. A review on the barriers many patients face when transitioning from the jail system back into their community and a review of options to aide their transition, including the role of LAI will be discussed.

Steven Stoner, PharmD, BCPP, is Board Certified in Psychiatric Pharmacy. He is the associate dean of Student Affairs and a Clinical Professor at the UMKC School of Pharmacy. He received his PharmD from the University of Nebraska College of Pharmacy. Dr. Stoner completed a postdoctoral residency in psychiatric pharmacy practice and administration and a fellowship at Western Missouri Mental Health Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
