Antipsychotic-Related Stigma & The Impact On Treatment Choices
Antipsychotics are a class of medication that has traditionally been prescribed for individuals with psychosis, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder but clinical trials have supported its use in major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Individuals prescribed antipsychotics often do not adhere to this treatment due to medication-related self-stigma. Listen in as Mr. Michael Townsend discusses and shares his insight on his recent publication that examines the prevalence of stigmatizing attitudes and behaviors in relationship to antipsychotic treatment and how this impact antipsychotic treatment initiation and continuation.
