Arizona Medicaid Cuts Payments To More Than 100 Behavioral Health Provider Organizations Due To Fraud Allegations
On May 17, 2023, the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), which oversees the state’s Medicaid program, announced actions against over 100 Medicaid behavioral health residential and outpatient treatment service provider organizations believed to be engaging fraudulent billing and criminal activity targeting Indigenous peoples and other vulnerable Arizona and New Mexico residents. Governor Katie Hobbs authorized a full third-party audit of claims dating back to 2019.
