Children & Adolescents Experiencing Double The Rate Of Depression & Anxiety Due To COVID-19

During 2020, about 25.2% of youth globally experienced clinically elevated depression symptoms and 20.5% experienced anxiety. These rates are double the estimates developed prior to the start of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, in which about 12.9% of youth experienced depression, and 11.6% experienced anxiety. These increases may have been caused by loss of peer interactions, social isolation, reduced contact with buffering supports (such as teachers and coaches), and reduced access to psychological services which are offered by schools.
