New York Budget Includes $1 Billion To Expand The State’s Continuum Of Mental Health Care
On May 3, 2023, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed the state’s $229 billion budget for fiscal year 2024—which includes $1 billion for a long-term investment to transform the state’s continuum of mental health care by expanding residential treatment capacity, inpatient psychiatric capacity, outpatient mental health services, and community-based services. The goal of the transformation is to reduce wait times and ensure that appropriate levels of care are provided to individuals with mental health disorders.
