Pathophysiology & Evolving Theories In Schizophrenia
This presentation is part 2 in a series focusing on the psychopharmacology of schizophrenia. This presentation reviews regions of the brain and neurotransmitters implicated in schizophrenia, as well as the hypothetical neural systems underlying schizophrenia symptoms. The presentation then reviews alterations and regulation of glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and its potential involvement in schizophrenia. The presentation concludes by addressing other hypotheses of schizophrenia pathophysiology, including genetics, neuroinflammation, and alterations in plasticity and/or white matter.
