Pearls For Practice: Recognizing & Celebrating Pride Month

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersexed (LGBTQI*) people represent a diverse range of identities and expressions of gender and sexual orientation. People who are a part of this community are diverse in terms of race, religion, ethnicity, nationality and socioeconomic class. This intersectionality — the combined and overlapping aspects of a person’s identity — brings diversity of thought, perspective, understanding and experience. Join Tony and Sara as they share their clinical and personal experience working together with this community to improve mental health and providing tips to improve clinical practice.

Sara Jones, PhD, APRN, PMHNP-BC, FAANP,is a Nurses Corner Section Advisor for PsychU. She is an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), she also serves as the Specialty Coordinator for the PMHNP program, and is the owner of Journey Wellness Clinic, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The Founder and former President of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Dr. Jones is Co-Section Advisor to the PsychU Nurses Corner.

Alan “Tony” Amberg, MS, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-BC, is a Nurses Corner Section Advisor for PsychU. Mr. Amberg is a Psychiatric Consult Liaison Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and also does outpatient clinical work at 7 Hills Healthcare Center, also in Chicago. He is also an Emeritus Board Member and Former President of the Illinois Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
