Post PPACA, Uninsured Rate Among People With Schizophrenia Declined From 8.4% To 4.0%

Following implementation of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) Medicaid expansion in 2014 (and the law’s other provisions), the percentage of uninsured adults under age 65 with schizophrenia declined, from 8.4% (2008-2013) to 4.0% (2014-2020). The likelihood that an adult with schizophrenia enrolled in Medicaid increased by 8.7 percentage points, rising from 61% (2008-2013) to 70% (2014-2020). Change in the likelihood of being covered by other types of insurance ranged as follows:
