PsychU Supporting Organization: An Interview With Caregiver Action Network

John Schall, Chief Executive Officer of Caregiver Action Network, and Nichole Goble, Programs Coordinator of Caregiver Action Network, sit down with Dennis Sholler to discuss their organization. John and Nichole describe the mission of the Caregiver Action Network, discuss the unique challenges faced by caregivers of individuals with serious mental illness, highlight strategies to promote the mental health and wellness of caregivers, and highlight new Caregiver Action Network program initiatives.

The mission of Caregiver Action Network is to promote resourcefulness and respect for the more than 90 million family caregivers across the country. The goals of Caregiver Action Network are to create resourceful caregivers, reduce caregiver stress, create respect for family caregivers, and create capable caregivers.

John A. Schall, MPP, is the Chief Executive Officer of Caregiver Action Network and has been recognized nationally as a thought leader on caregiving issues and trends. He has been working as a health care expert in the non-profit sector for years and is considered a national leader on caregiving issues. He also has extensive government experience. He was Deputy of the White House Domestic Policy Council under President George H.W. Bush and chief of staff of the U.S. Department of Labor.

Nichole Goble is the Programs Coordinator at Caregiver Action Network. She assists with development and implementation of CAN’s e-resources and face-to-face workshops for family caregivers. She has a background of working in disability advocacy and, as an individual with a disability, understands the unique components of the relationship between family caregivers and their loved ones. Dennis Sholler, PhD, is a Medical Science Liaison for Otsuka Pharmaceutical Development and Commercialization, Inc.
