13 States Have Mental Health Policies Specific To Postpartum Depression

Thirteen states have enacted one or more, state-level peripartum mental health policies, addressing mental health issues occurring during the last month of gestation or the first few months after delivery. Only one state, Illinois, mandates reimbursement for counseling. Only four states mandate screening for peripartum depression: Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and West Virginia.
