Suicide Rates In Most Vulnerable Counties Nearly Double Rate In Better-Off Counties

Between 2016 and 2020, suicide rates were nearly twice as high in U.S. counties with more negative social and environmental factors as measured by the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and the related Social Vulnerability Metric (SVM). Between 2016 and 2021, there were 222,018 completed suicides across 3,141 U.S. counties.
