Mental Health Professionals Experience Elevated Stress & Anxiety When Managing Client Suicidal Behaviors
A recent study found that many mental health professionals experience elevated levels of stress and anxiety in relation to their role in managing suicidal behaviors; their distress was found to be associated with the emotional exhaustion component of burnout. Further, measures showed that adverse responses were higher for outpatient mental health professionals than inpatient workers; higher for those who had received generic training in suicide prevention; and higher for those who had experienced a workplace related client suicide.
