In this presentation, the objectives are to:

  • Discuss current developments in digital health for psychiatry and consider the advantages and challenges of using digital tools
  • Examine the use of technology in promoting treatment adherence
  • Review shared decision making in psychiatry and the contribution that digital tools can make to its implementation

Robert N. Cuyler, PhD

Chief Clinical Officer, Freespira, Inc

Robert N. Cuyler, PhD serves as Chief Clinical Officer of Freespira, Inc. With decades of experience as a practicing clinical psychologist, healthcare executive, and consultant, he supervises clinical operations of the company, heads research initiatives, and represents Freespira in conference, publication, and media outlets. In his clinical practice, he focuses on treatment of anxiety, panic conditions, and depression as well as health psychology. Dr. Cuyler received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Louisiana State University and Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the Menninger Foundation. His consulting and management activities have focused on solving access problems in behavioral health, with a concentration on incorporating telemedicine and healthcare technology into clinical practice. He is author (with Dutch Holland, PhD) of the book Implementing Telemedicine: Completing Projects On Target On Time On Budget. He has authored or co-authored four textbook chapters on telemedicine, including the recently published second edition of the book Emergency Psychiatry. He previously served as President of the Association for Ambulatory Behavioral Healthcare. His numerous public policy activities have included membership on the Texas Hospital Association’s Psychiatric Advisory Council, and member of the National Institute of Mental Health’s National Mental Health Leadership Council. Dr. Cuyler has served for over a decade as a judge at the Rice University’s Jones School annual Business Plan Competition.

Registration for PsychU Live Events will be closed 2 business days prior to the date of the event. No walk-ins will be permitted to attend PsychU Live Events. PsychU declines attendance after a healthcare professional has attended a pre-determined number of programs, has attended multiple programs on the same topic or is outside the appropriate specialty for PsychU programs, to avoid any appearance of impropriety between OPDC and the healthcare professional. This measure protects the healthcare professional as well as OPDC.
