Home Health Spending Rose 7.7% In 2019 To $113.5 Billion

During 2019, spending on home health services rose by 7.7% to reach $113.5 billion, up from $105.4 billion in fiscal year 2018. About 71% of home health spending in 2019 was through Medicare (38.7%) and Medicaid (32.0%). Private health insurance plans paid 14.6% in 2019, and consumers paid for 11.0% out of pocket. Other insurance programs and other types of third-party payers paid 3.7% of the total home health expenditure.
