U.S. Death Rate Due To Alcohol, Drugs & Suicide Increased By 11% In 2021

Between 2020 and 2021, the combined age-adjusted death rate of alcohol, drug, and suicide deaths increased by 11%, from 54.9 deaths per 100,000 people in 2020 to 60.9 deaths per 100,000 people in 2021. Since 2011, the number of alcohol, drug, and suicide deaths has increased by 88% from 104,379 deaths (a rate of 32.2 deaths per 100,000) in 2011 to 209,225 deaths in 2021.
